Handmade Jewelry by Simone Walsh

I make an evolving range of unique handmade jewelry using a variety of metalsmithing techniques, including saw-piercing, etching, casting and more. My favorite materials include sterling silver, gold, gemstones, silk and anything else which takes my fancy. The jewelry I make reflects my interests in nature, culture, history, pattern, travel and more. My newest range of handmade jewelry has been inspired by the art and design of the Victorian era. My work is often ornamental and intricate and I love combining traditional design elements with a contemporary twist. These days I rarely aim for perfection in my jewellery, instead preferring for wearers to be able to see at least a little bit evidence of my having worked on it - with the hope that this will be something they treasure. I create all of my work in my home studio in Sydney Australia and my jewelry ships all over the world.

This delicate and elegant Victorian-inspired pendant has been intricately cut out by hand in sterling silver. Cameo pendant on chain

This elegant cameo pendant is made from sterling silver. The profile of a woman’s head has been intricately cut out from silver which has been etched with a detailed damask pattern. The background also has the same damask pattern etched into the surface. The background has been blackened, but is also slightly shiny. The pendant is suspended from a sterling silver chain with handmade findings.

Victorian etched pendant - leaves & flowers

This Victorian-inspired pendant has been etched with an engraved image of leaves and flowers. It is made from sterling silver and features a 14kt gold stylised leaf motif as a highlight. The pendant has been domed and is suspended from a delicate sterling silver chain with handmade sterling silver findings.

These delicate rose earrings have been entirely handmade in sterling silver. Each earring features three layers of ‘petals’ – each created from an organic cup-like shape, one nested inside the other. Each petal has been given a hammered texture using a variety of hammers before being domed.

Text cufflinks

These simple but stylish cufflinks are made entirely from sterling silver. The front panels of the cufflinks have been etched with a section of text taken from a page of the book Vanity Fair. The recessed etched text has been given a white silver oxide finish, while the surface of the pendant has a brushed but still shiny finish.

Poppies necklace

This necklace features five blackened sterling silver poppies which are suspended on a sterling silver chain with handmade findings. The poppies have a light weight and move freely on the chain and will sit in different positions as you move. They make a lovely tinkling sound as the domed shapes hit against each other.

Damask pendant

To create this pendant I etched a decorative damask-type pattern into sterling silver. The silver was then cut out in the shape of a small detail which caught my eye in another damask pattern. The pendant is suspended on black natural silk thread which is finished with handmade sterling silver findings.
